What is the Wii stand plate?

I already have my Wii, but I just wanted to know this. I’ve read places that the Wii comes with a “Wii stand plate” or “Auxilary plate,” and I was curious as to what it was supposed to be.
Also, where would it be located? I’m just curious. The only clear plastic I can think of was a little mini-stand thing that I had assumed was for the sensor bar (I put it under the sensor bar on top of my TV because my TV has a wierd curve on top that makes it so long things like that can’t be evenly placed on top.)
Also, does it have anything to do with that extra adhesive?

It’s that clear plastic that slides into the Wii base. All it does is gives the base better support.
